At what age should my child be able to know his ABC's?

Between the ages of 2-3, most toddlers can recite the alphabet song similarly to how they can memorize and sing other kid songs that they hear over and over (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus) but do not know that the letter names correspond to individual symbols. Between 4-5 years old is when a child is typically able to identify or recognize upper-case letters and numbers, meaning they see the letter "B" or the number "2" in a book or on a sign and can name it, especially letters that are in their first name.
