In The News

Laura Weigt MS, OTR/L, Social Emotional Classroom Supervisor and Behavioral Consultant, is now credentialed as an instructor in Safety Care. Safety Care is a curriculum that is used to provide staff with the skills and strategies necessary to allow them to safely support individuals who may exhibit aggressive or destructive behaviors.

Rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) theory, this method focuses on prevention and de-escalation of undesirable behavior. Though Safety Care uses proven methods for appropriate and safe handling, the curriculum promotes using the least restrictive interventions and using preventative, rather than reactive, techniques. The objective of Safety Care is to ultimately keep the child, peers, and adults safe in all situations. Laura’s certification will allow her to train Pediatrics Plus staff in this curriculum. By equipping our staff with appropriate behavior management as well as safe, appropriate handling techniques we will be more effective at preventing both the incidence of explosive or aggressive behavior as well as the escalation of potentially dangerous situations, thus providing a more optimal developmental environment for every child.
