While store-bought toys are typically thought of as being essential to playtime, inexpensive household items can make a great alternative for creating fun summer activities and toys that can help your child’s development. This activity will spark creativity, build fine motor skills, and can be a learning aid to teach children about the animals they are making.

MAKE A PAPER PLATE ANIMAL MASK

Stepbystep mask photos

What you will need:

  • Paper plate
  • Straw or popsicle stick
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape

Directions:

  1. Cut two holes to make eyes
  2. Color a fun design
  3. Tape straw to mask

**For children who do not like their face covered, try this variation:

And remember, the more a child has to use his or her own mind and body during playtime, the more he or she will benefit from play!
